Poetry Space editor and poet, Susan Jane Sims has been awarded a prestigious Hawthornden Fellowship for 2018. She will spend four weeks in January living in a castle near Edinburgh along with five other writers. Susan, author of the IDP collection, A number of things you should know said “she is excited to be following in the footsteps of some of her favourite writers”. She plans to spend the time working on her latest poetry collection based on the experience of bearing witness to her son Mark’s journey through 23 months of living with advanced cancer. Sadly her son, a young doctor died in January aged 28. “The Hawthornden Fellowship exactly a year on from his death feels very fitting and will give me a healing as well as a writing space”, she says.
