Mothers and Sons

I thought I knew
about mothers,
about sons.
Thought I knew
all there was to know.

That was before,
that was then
when words like
as and when and
tomorrow
meant something
completely different.

Some of you will already know that my son Mark is seriously ill with secondary cancer from a serious for of skin cancer (malignant melanoma eleven and a half years ago) when he was fifteen. He has reacted to this so courageously by raising money from his hospital bed and I will refer  you to that page so you can read his story far better than I can explain (scroll down below)

I woke this morning with eyes that feel sore from the tears I have shed. But there are humorous moments too. Mark had blue hands this morning and the doctors have been trying to work out why. It was blue dye…from the new denim look jogging trousers we bought him  for this birthday, thinking these would be comfy for mooching around in.

Chris and  intend spending as much time with him as we possibly can so this will mean being in London as Mark is having is treatment at The Royal Marsden, at the moment as an inpatient, soon hopefully as an outpatient, if his pain and sickness remain controlled.

The London event will go ahead on Saturday 14th March, 3.15 – 6pm at The Poetry Cafe, Betterton St, Covent Garden. Come from 1pm to meet up with friends and for refreshments. I’ll be there at 2pm.
