The Lumen is an Edinburgh-based magazine providing a forum for new writing on medicine. It aims to explore the texture, depth and diversity of the personal experience of medicine, from the realities of health, illness and suffering to the intricate daily challenges facing healthcare professionals. The Lumen will provide a space for the expression of the unique aspects of the medical encounter and the sides of the human condition it exposes.
We welcome submissions of new prose, poetry, essays and reviews from healthcare professionals, patients, students of all healthcare professions, and writers of all disciplines and backgrounds. We also welcome submissions of visual art.
The Lumen is now accepting submissions for its first issue on the theme of ?the sharp and numb?; please feel free to interpret this as you wish. Publication is planned for the coming Summer and the submission deadline is 15th April, 2013.
